IFIA MEETING MINUTES

November 16, 2018

 

OFFICERS PRESENT:

President Riordan, Vice-President Janozik, Treasurer Brown, Exec. Dir. Morris

Meeting called to order at 1140 by President Riordan

 

GENERAL COMMENTS:

-President Riordan Thanked everyone for attending the seminar it was a great turn out.

-Thanked speakers and Craig Studer for putting together a great seminar.

 

MEETING:
  • President Riordan called for a motion to approve last meetings minutes.

-Renewal Notices went out for membership year 2019.

-By-Law changes- if interested on being on the committee please contact President Riordan.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS REPORT:
  • For the seminar, you will be getting your certificate emailed to you.

  • 2019 Fire and Life Safety Conference (formally Combined Conference) in March, planning well on the way, check the inspector website.

  • Pre-conference flyer is going out.

  • 2019 Fire and Life Safety Conference registration is/will be online.

  • OSFM is considering pushing for adoption of newer Life Safety Code (LSC) 101, with changes of: if you are a home rule community with current fire codes then you can opt out of State codes, if you are not a home rule or are a Fire Dist., then you will have to use as minimum code. All State buildings, existing high rise buildings and assemblies will continue to follow 2000 LSC.  Chapter on residential sprinklers will be optional.

  • Be aware of an email from the Illinois Fire inspectors that starts out “Hello”, it’s not from us, so disregard.

  • Morris asked if there would be any interest on obtaining online continuing education for inspector for about $29.00 a class, consensus of members were open to it, IFIA is looking into providing this to members.

  • At the end of this year, Knox will be ceasing the use of their paper form for ordering Knox boxes, you will have to do it online and authorize it online.

ELECTION:

The Treasurer’s position will be open on 2019 board and Jay Atherton has put his name in for nomination.

President Riordan called for any further nominations for treasurer three times.

No other nominations.

(Board will be sworn in at the December meeting.)

 

CODES and DEVELOPMENT: (Studer)

If you have any suggestions for presentations for classes see a Board member or him.

 

LIFE SAFETY:

 

CERTIFICATIONS: (Brown)

-Inspector I will be in Palatine in Feb. 12 thru March 12, 5-consecutive Tuesdays.

-FLSE in Downers end Of April.

-See IFIA website for class info.

 

OSFM: (Wetzel)

He will be around to answer any questions you might have.

-Dec. 7th Holiday Meeting.

-Membership changes coming.
